چکیده مقاله:

Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) as a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) method is used to identify basic causes leading to an undesired event, to represent logical relation of these basic causes in leading to the event, and finally to calculate the probability of occurrence of this event. To conduct a quantitative FTA, one needs a fault tree along with failure data of the Basic Events (BEs). Sometimes it is difficult to have an exact estimation of the failure rates of individual components or the probabilities of occurrence of undesired events due to a lack of sufficient data. Furthermore, due to imprecision in failure data of BEs, the overall result may be questionable. To avoid such conditions, a fuzzy approach may be used with the FTA technique. This reduces the ambiguity and imprecision arising from the subjectivity of data. Traditional FTA method needs a sound data base of failure of all BEs for quantifying the probability failure of system, whilst there is not such a database available in offshore pipeline industry; therefore, fuzzy FTA approach is proposed to deal with this issue. The proposed model is able to quantify the fault tree of offshore pipeline system in the absence or existence of data. This paper also illustrates with a case study the use of importance measures in sensitivity analysis.

Application of Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis in Risk Assessment of Ammonia Tank Explosion Scenario

Introduction: Chemical industries often have risks for the environment and communities, due to the use of complex facilities and processes. Also, in the ammonia tanks, the probability of risk of explosion is high, owing to their specific characteristics. The aim of this study is to evaluate the risks of explosion scenario at the ammonia tank in the Kermanshah petrochemical complex Material and...

Fuzzy fault tree analysis: a review of concept and application

Fault tree analysis (FTA) is a widely used method for analyzing a system’s failure logic and calculating overall reliability. However, application of conventional FTA has some shortcomings, e.g. in handling the uncertainties, allowing the use of linguistic variables, and integrating human error in failure logic model. Hence, Fuzzy set theory has been proposed to overcome the limitation of conve...

Towards the Formal Reliability Analysis of Oil and Gas Pipelines

It is customary to assess the reliability of underground oil and gas pipelines in the presence of excessive loading and corrosion effects to ensure a leak-free transport of hazardous materials. The main idea behind this reliability analysis is to model the given pipeline system as a Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) of segments such that the reliability of an individual pipeline segment can be re...
